Healthy eating brings about thoughts of lots of salads and deprivation from your favorite foods. A lot of people can’t even think about how much they can eat. Moderation simply means that you don’t binge on these types of foods. A scoop of ice cream occasionally or even once a week is fine. A carton of ice cream in one sitting on a daily basis, not so much. A couple of drumsticks of fried chicken at the family picnic is fine. It all comes down to self control and knowing that it’s okay to say yes sometimes. This goes for all of that fat-free food as well. Just because it says fat-free doesn’t mean it’s good for you. It can still have all of the preservatives and artificial flavoring as the full-fat kind. This applies to sugar-free as well. It may be sugar-free but that simply means that it contains artificial sweeteners like Splenda or aspartame. You decide if the sugar-free is actually better.

Now as for what you can eat, this is still about a bit of moderation. Most people don’t know that there are plenty of vegetarians that are unhealthy and overweight. It is important to stick with foods that are good for you. You should also keep to the correct portion sizes in order to not overdo it. While healthy eating involves plenty of fruits and vegetables on a daily basis, portion sizes should always be followed. Food should be consumed as fuel for the body, not just for something to do.
